Birthstones: Month vs. Zodiac Sign

Our birth month and birthstone have gone hand in hand for generations, but have you ever thought about your Zodiac stone?

The Twelve Zodiac Signs (Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn) stem from Babylonian era studies of astrology and astronomy dating back to the Iron Age of 1000BC. It is because of this connection to our solar system that many believe zodiac stones transmit energy from the planets to bring fortune and good luck to those who wear their sign’s stone.

Since each Zodiac Sign follows the astrological calendar, zodiac stones differ from birthstones which are commonly based on the internationally accepted Gregorian calendar. This means your zodiac stone may vary depending on the year you were born and how close to your birthday is to the cusp of the astrological period.

Below is the most accepted list of Zodiac Stones. There are alternatives to each zodiac stone, and many are shared among signs. It is said that you choose the stone you feel the most connection with. So do some research and start having the stars align in your favor!

It’s interesting how you list Amethyst as the main “most accepted” gem for Pisces/March yet in the related posts it shows you’ve made an article about Aquamarine being the birthstone. I’m not sure I would call this the most accepted list really either, considering everywhere else is different. I had to dig to find this page/list.

    • Hello Kelly, Thanks for your input. This particular blog post is fairly old and was sent in by a contributing blogger. I would agree, that Aquamarine is the most accepted gemstone for March and is more widely known to be as such.

Would Tanzanite also be associated with Libra?
